Hello, I’m Adam and this is day 9 of my 31 Days Of Horror. I’ll be honest with you, I’m going to keep this one quite short as I feel terrible which, i figure, makes me the perfect person to watch Malatesta’s Carnival of Blood.
I’ll be honest with you, I have no idea what this film is. Written by Werner Liepolt and directed by Christopher Speeth, Malatesta’s Carnival Of Blood is the one and only film made by these guys and.. uh.. it’s certainly a thing that exists.
The story follows the Norris family as they arrive at a carnival on the search for their missing son. Then when Vena, the daughter of the family, catches the eye of the mysterious Mr Blood everything goes a bit.. mad. Oh, and there’s also a singing flesh-eating cult that enjoys silent movies under the supervision of the mysterious cloaked figure known as Malatesta.
And that’s basically it. Vena runs around the carnival at night for the majority of the film, pursued by all manner of ghouls and surreal visuals. It genuinely is just one long nightmare sequence, complete with sets assembled by Lovecraftian setsquares, and a blood straight out of the Dulux can. For what it’s worth, it’s not terrible, but it does make me want to take a long lie down.
